Benzene-free printing should be the development direction of green food packaging

The General Guidelines for Green Food Packaging, which have been implemented in China, clearly stipulate that foamed polystyrene, polyurethane and other materials are not allowed to be used in plastic products for packaged food; that the outer packaging of green food should indicate the instructions for the use and reuse of materials, the instructions for recycling and the signs of green food; and that the printing and packaging of green food should be non-toxic in its ink or adhesive for labeling. And they should not be directly exposed to food.

These standards will fundamentally regulate food packaging, especially green food packaging, in order to improve its safety. The reason why green food packaging is mentioned in particular here is that consumers pay attention to the green food itself, while often neglecting packaging to cause new pollution, so that green food becomes "polluted food".

It has been found in some supermarkets that many vegetables are labeled green food and packed independently according to their weight. However, these packages use degradable fresh-keeping film, but trays are disposable plastic products; many cut fruit platters also use disposable foam plastic mesh wrapping which is harmful to human health; and a considerable number of high-quality rice labeled with green food are also packaged in harmful plastic woven bags.

According to experts, at present, many food bags and trays are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is not only toxic to human body, but also pollutes the environment after use. For example, some businessmen use a large number of whitened paper for food packaging. In order to improve the whiteness of these papers, most of them are treated with fluorescent whitening agents which are very toxic to human beings and animals. In particular, it is worth pointing out that today there are many businesses like to use color wrapping paper, resulting in greater pollution and harm. If the color ink containing excessive benzene in color packaging paper is directly in contact with food, it may directly endanger human health. Therefore, green food must be prevented from using "green food bags" printed with color ink containing excessive benzene.

Then, how to prevent harmful packaging of green food? Combined with the scientific detection of relevant parties, the analysis shows that, while not changing the traditional production technology, we should not only solve the problem of excessive color ink benzene in the process of green food packaging and printing, but also reduce the waste of raw materials and the occurrence of staff poisoning caused by on-site deployment, and at the same time improve material benefits. The best way to reduce the use rate, production cost and business risk is to allow only polypropylene and polyurethane adhesives modified with maleic anhydride to be used in food packaging according to GB-9685 standard, while one-component pressure sensitive adhesives using benzene as solvent are never allowed to be used.

That is to say, benzene-free printing technology should become the direction of green food packaging. Packaging enterprises should start from the point of view of food safety technology, through technical improvement, solve the non-toxic and harmless packaging materials from the source.
